GOOGLE I LOVE YOU.

Google is really loving providing me with inspiring people and their work this morning. This sculpture from Kate MccGwire is as labourous as could be, all created from feathers.
I dilike the way it slithers around her furniture, but I love the idea. Would love to see this in the flesh. Or... feathers.

LONDON IS IN DESPERATE NEED OF...

OUTTHEBOX.

ARCHITECTURE, like I have never seen before. This really is an example of stepping outside of your comfort zone, thinking outside of your box, and outside of your life style. We now know exactly what people need from a house, what they do inside it and we think practically. Whilst in the past it has often been, the bigger the better, however, modernistic approaches seem to want to play on the practicalities to encourage a house for you needs. This really is a work of art, coming from a collaboration inside the University of Karlsruhe, I applaud thee. This is the most creative way of thinking of a home I have seen in a while, and it's things such as this piece that inspire others to create magnificent creations. On the other hand, just how practical is this? What if your needs included a dinner for ten, in which four of them suffered from back problems? Mmm, I'm stumped.

PT.BORE.

A rant for the public transport peoples.

Waiting by the bus stop. Next bus in another thirty minutes. Four buses passing by. Still environment, nothing to see. What could these twenty minutes rather be. I could sew a couple of seams. Topstitch a cape. Design six or seven. But instead I wait. Here it comes. Don't worry Mister Bus bloke, we'll wait for your toilet break. Cabbage like smell. Scutty ass seats. Go on charge me £2 for this journey. Bastard. The drunk ass man chatting tales of 'how to live a life'. Engine running on for another twenty. Almost an hour wasted, for a ten minute journey. A waste. Of my time. Of my day. Of my life. Yes you are convenient. Yes, you help with my lack of driving skills. But oh my dear lord. I hate fucking buses.

Dreamy somethings.

Pre- 6am wake up calls are nasty, whats even worse is when you naturally wake up at this silly time. Whats even worse than that is when the reason you wake up is the world ending. Being rather creative my imagination is always on a high, and the dream went something like this;

The house was on a hill, looking out over the rest of the town with the sea in the distance. The front of the house had been ripped off and the clouds were black as could be. Held by my stepmother we watched as the clouds slowly closed up the last gap in which lit the town, she told me to close my eyes as I shouted, "It's a blackout!" I then ran into the next room in which my Dad stood with another man, holding a torch he prepared to go out of the house. I screamed at him, "Don't be a hero, stay! Please!

...and that's when I woke up.
For a thursday morning I arose with serious issues on my mind; the environment, society and public reactions.  I felt like I needed to do something to help. I thought about planes, and if we could live without them, and the uproar in society if we were to get rid.
Far too deep for a Thursday morn.

My mind has been so active lately, I finally feel as if the world is my oyster and I could literally do anything. With the end of year fashion show being prepared, an internship at a top fashion magazine and a year doing a Foundation degree on the cards, it's all very exciting. The collection is coming along wonderfully, to see more click on the 'rusty' icon on the left hand side to see mine and my design partner, Emily's collaborative blog. I really believe that to get anywhere in life you have to aim high, ask cheeky unlikely questions and always be unexpected. I plan to be that and more from now on. I would rather live a life tried, than a life comfortable. This is going a little deep again, but I've had constant head aches for a week due to the amount of activity on the brain.

Just a little dose of sensitivity for you, my readers.

Thats all for now, keep tuned.

'I WANT HER BABIES!'

FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE.

Last Tuesday I was very lucky to have an orange and white ticket to see the very beautiful and talented Florence and her brilliant machine. I have to say, that she was pure amazing. I grabbed these images off her website, as I was stupid enough to leave my camera at home. The crowd was completely loving every minute, as she sung 'Dog Days Are Over' while she requested a jumping session. Finishing with 'Kiss With A Fist' was just the icing on the cake. If anyone gets the chance to see her in action then do so, and take pictures!
Also, she was supported by the band, The Drums, which were actually extremely entertaining. The lead singer had some moves pulling in all directions and they really got the show ready for Florence, so kudos to those mischievous boys. Check them out.

FOUNDATION SHOP.

In discussions with my tutor with a possible shop being made to appear and disappear at certain times in the college, I kind of imagine it to be like this one. Ha. I kind of hope it is, all rugged and antique but with some spectacular pieces inside it's peeling skin.

OR this one, how bloody quant and gorgeous is this? I want to put wheels on the bottom and paint (like what was discussed today) it different colours for this cool surreal little shop of wonderment!

Pardon my french.

The latest issue of Man About Town is out on the shop floors. I am, since yesterday, a fan.
I had not seen the paper script of fashion juice before, and at a mean seven pounds a pop, it's a luxury in my world, as for the amount of magazines I buy!
However, I shall always be open eyed, spying on the issues in future days now. The photography is beautiful, mostly black and white, with odd glances of colour. It's layout is simple and clean cut. The font is clear and easy to read (much better than Vogues choice of letter race) The articles are insightful and they skip the commercial bullshit, which frankly, I hate.

I recommend Man about Town to all. Especially as this latest issue includes a spread of several pages on Aaron Johnson, who's simply delightful face is enough to make you want to skip lunch and buy this magazine instead.

Also, if you have just an obsession with the name, Man about Town, there's a lovely little article in the latest Vogue on the 'cultural-odyssey around London', which of course goes by the title of the three little words I've said so many times.

Another, if you are actually clinically obsessed.
There's a interesting blog called, Man About Town by a very great person I know. For a young, approach to design, style, music interest then this is the blog for you. Written by a fashion student in the city of Birmingham, go ahead and take a cheeky peek.

You are blatantly obsessed. Sweet.

SCULPTURAL FUCKER.

Here at SHAKING FROM SUGAR, I recently took part in a project which tied origami which clothes, very interesting project. Although, I wish the outcome was something like these pieces now. They're quite spectacular.

BEHNAZ SARAFPOUR

BEHNAZ SARAFPOUR. In this recent a/w collection, the designer opted for a presentation rather than her clothes being shown in a catwalk style. The two nude pieces below are my chosen favourites. I quite liked the collection, though feeling a little Michael-Jackson-smooth-criminal through the middle, overall it's a pleasant find. Saying this, I think it's her strongest collection yet, as the previous collection, flicking through, seem a little old before their time. Collections which are only a year old, looking like they have appeared in the late nineties, which kind of puts me off the thought of buying her collection. There doesn't seem to be ageless, timeless buys in there, which I guess means that maybe she's always cutting edge? Thoughts?

ALEXANDRE HERCHCOVITCH

OK, Herchcovitch. After checking him out I find out that he's actually been going since 2002, I really should know about him. However, looking through his last two seasons, I struggle to express extreme excitement for finding him. In each collection, a/w 2010 for a start, I could only really find a couple of pieces I really liked, which are above. As for the s/s 2010, it all looked a little slap dash to me, I didn't really get it. The clothes in some parts looked bad quality. The concept and ideas are quite lovely, and after reading style.com's review you can kind of see what he's trying to do. This piece above I liked, purely because I think it would rather marvelous in black leather, with raven feathers and tulle- which is completely what its not.
I have never been one for colour however. I do enjoy blacks and muted tones far too much, so I do feel a little congratulation is in order for the bravery of his print. On the other hand, I think it's fair to say, he isn't my new favourite, and my favourites change all the time. Fashion changes, so I intend to do so to.

KIMMIE.

Before I start on my aims for today, I want to talk about work experience for a second. Last year, I did work experience with a designer called Jacob Kimmie. Its a small company which is progressing nicely, and so is Jacob as a designer. His last collection was very beautiful, my design partner, Emily, worked at the company this year and created this amazing knitted dress. So proud I am!
Jacob isn't very well known right now, but I think everyone should check out his blog, Jacob Kimmie.
Some more for your greedy minds.

AIM.

A message from SHAKING FROM SUGAR. As an internship is approaching I'm getting more and more worried about the amount of fashion knowledge I have. For around my area, I'm just fine, but the the big smoke, I am not. So today I make myself an aim.
The aim is:
To find three designers which I have never heard of before, research them, know about them.
To find two artists, research them, know about them.
Find one stylist and research them.

All this research will be posted today, so keep on it. I also have tuns of work to get through, which is why I'm up at 'bloody-why-the-hell' O'clock.

Stay tuned, and sleepy.
