ASINGLEMAN
(this film is too good for caps)
I have just watched A Single Man and I'm completely blown away.
The utter truth behind the story line is startlingly impressive. There have been many a film to attempt the classic heart broken story. Attempting to visually communicate what one feels before and after love... and yet because of said tales, is it now rather the cliche?
On the other hand Tom Ford is due a round of a applause. (One in which he got a while ago now, it's just that I have only this second had the pleasure of watching it) I have never watched a film so delicate and sensitive. Every moment is believable, and from the fifth minute in, my heart sank for the character. The lighting is incredible. The subtle playing with hues was almost unnoticeable, yet had such a dramatic effect on the mood within the film, which of course reflected itself on to it's audience. The camera work was cleverly compassionate. It is a well deserved Bafta award winner.
In the film there is a part in where they talk about life; past, present, future.
They claim that when in the present, all we want is it to be tomorrow.
And the future, our future is death.
I love this mind frame, as it strips us of the visuals, the objects, the money, the everything. We are left with our lives, that only... So the consequences which make our lives, rely on our emotions.
To think of life in a practical sense is inadequate in a way.
It's hard to explain.
I often think that life shouldn't be planned, I would much rather follow what my head/heart tells me at that present time, for tomorrow. I think if anything, A Single Man teaches us that life can end at any moment so any moment you have before that should be enjoyed and appreciated, yet still have enough life inside of you to realise that there are hopeful amounts of things to be enjoyed in the future, if you let it.
This is a deep post, but it's a beautiful film, and although I love what I do, I miss the analysing and ranting of literature. I need to start reading more and exercise my brain, so that you won't have to get this every time I watch/read something amazing.
Peace out.
